Art Research Study for People with Mild Dementia and their Carers
Service Description
What is the study about? This research explores whether participation in a virtual arts program is safe, tolerable, and effective in supporting the well-being of people with mild dementia and their carers by reducing social isolation and enhancing enrichment. The curriculum developer is an artist and graduate of the master's program in Arts and Medicine at the University of Florida. The facilitator is a graduate student in biomedical neuroscience at the University of Florida. Why participate? • You may contribute valuable information that may be of use to researchers in the future. • You will be sent all art materials and necessary supplies at no cost to you. • You’ll have opportunities to explore art processes and make art. Who can participate? We're looking for 9 couples: Each couple should have one person diagnosed with mild dementia and one person who is neurotypical (has no cognitive diagnosis) and: • have access to a computer, Wi-Fi, and Zoom • have a physical address where art supplies can be sent • have use of at least one hand • are both aged 62 years or older • are available to attend sessions on ALL the following dates: September 5th, 7th, 12th, 14th, 19th, 21st, 26th, and 28th from 10:00am-11:30am (EST).
